Effective January 1, 2023 Colorado businesses are now charging for plastic and recycled paper bags, changes that will largely be seen at major grocery, liquor, retail and convenience stores. Under the new law, consumers will pay $0.10 cent fee for each single-use plastic or paper bag required at the store. However, individuals in federal or state food assistance programs don’t pay the fees as long as they can prove that they are enrolled in one of those programs. Additionally, it does not apply to materials used in the packaging of pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, or dietary supplements or any equipment or materials used to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, or dietary supplements.
